Success Stories:
Energy Efficiency Project
A local meat supplier asked EPS to assess and recommend a solution to their problem of starting their 300hp refrigeration compressor solely on the power provided by the existing 500 kW backup diesel generator in the facility. Working with Pacific Gas and Electric Company, EPS Corp performed a Non Residential Rebate (NRR) project calculation for installing variable frequency drives on the two (2) 300 hp ammonia refrigeration compressors serving the freezers and the 125 hp compressor serving the loading dock area. EPS Corp installed the variable frequency drives (VFDs) and programmed the control devices for the startup routine for the backup generator and ensured they were running properly and efficiently.
The net result: Over 500,000 kWh of energy savings with a payback of just over three years.

xChange Point® Controls Project
A national supplier of meats to Arby’s and Subway selected EPS to help them upgrade their refrigeration plant controls. EPS evaluated the existing controls, installed new state of the art controls hardware, then developed program strategies and graphics to control the new processing areas. The expanded computerized control system provides a graphical display of the refrigeration system to allow proactive control and management. In addition, EPS assisted the customer in recovering a portion of the installation cost under the statewide “Savings By Design” program administered by Southern California Edison.
The net result: The meat company has improved monitoring and management of the refrigeration systems and is now operating with greater efficiency.

Energy Efficiency Project
A premium meat supply company wanted to operate their cogeneration system as a backup power source in the event of a loss of utility power for an extended period of time. Their goal was to ensure they could provide power to the critical refrigeration and lighting loads required to complete any work in the process areas and to prevent product loss. EPS proposed and included the necessary system interconnects and equipment required by the city and utility for stand-by operation of the existing generators. EPS delivered a turnkey project, including project development, permitting, utility interconnection, coordination, engineering and implementation.
The net result: The meat company now has a reliable source of energy in the event of a loss of utility power, so it can avoid high costs and product losses.
