EPS Corp Implements State-of-the-Art Solar Project for Tyco Healthcare

Project to save customer $52,678 per year

COSTA  MESA,  CALIFORNIA  [MARCH  28,  2007]  EPS Corp,  a  premier  provider  of comprehensive  and  powerful  energy  solutions,  recently  completed  a  $2.1  million  high efficiency solar installation for Tyco Healthcare’s facility in Pleasonton, CA.  The project will  result  in  annual  energy  savings  of  $52,678,  a  reduction  in  energy  consumption  of 408,355 kWh per year, and a decrease in emissions of 358,097 lbs. of CO2  per year. EPS creates environmentally sound approaches to our customer’s energy challenges. The company uses proven technologies to deliver alternate energy generation, energy conservation and industrial controls through asset ownership, turnkey construction and consulting.

EPS secured a $672,000 rebate for the project from PG&E, which will realize a payback of less than 3 years for Tyco.  In addition to direct savings, Tyco will also benefit from substantial Federal tax and accelerated deprecation advantages. eps installed 1,512 sharp 175 watt panels in strings of 12 on a nonpenetrating racking system that, due to the wind loads and seismic loads, has 256 strategically placed hold downs.  eps  worked  closely  with  inverter  manufacturer  SatCon  to  design  a revolutionary new Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) circuit for the Tyco project.  This brand new GFI circuit is capable of carrying the entire current of a large commercial system. This  solution  met  building  code  stipulations,  while  eliminating  the  possibility  of catastrophic  failure  due  to  potential  insufficiency  of  standard  ground  wires  to  handle such a large current.  This type of GFI circuit is now a standard SatCon offering, and will enable eps to save its customers significant time and money on future solar projects. In  addition,  eps  installed  a  wide  screen  monitor  in  the  lobby  of  Tyco’s  building  that graphically  displays  the  real  time  results  of  system  performance,  including  the  power generated at the current time, the equivalent environmental benefits, and even a visitor friendly tutorial on solar photovoltaic systems.  This display is of tremendous PR value to the customer.

EPS’  President Shiva Subramanya said, “EPS is committed to findings ways to provide environmentally  and  financially  attractive  solutions.  By  generating  solar  power,  Tyco Healthcare is reducing operating costs and improving the environment we live in as well as  attaining  tax  advantages.  We  are  pleased  to  be  part  of  an  environmentally responsible solution.”

The  City  of  Pleasanton  enthusiastically  embraced  the  project.  “The  Tyco  project  is exactly the kind of renewable resource program our city encourages from our business community,”  said  Pleasanton  Mayor  Jennifer  Hosterman.  “We  applaud  Tyco  and  their commitment to making our environment healthier.  eps is to be commended for its part in this exciting project, and providing superior quality implementation.”
