Permanent Load Shift (PLS)
Challenge
San Diego Gas & Electric wanted to ease their industrial customers’ energy load during peak periods by instituting a Permanent Load Shift program with an efficiency partner.
Solution
San Diego Gas & Electric selected EPS Corp to bring industrial refrigeration customers a new energy service, SDG&E’s Permanent Load Shift Program, which is designed to permanently reduce customer electrical demands during peak periods on a sustained basis. EPS contributed more than 1 MW of demand reduction by mid-summer 2009, exceeding its program goal by 20%.
Result
By engaging EPS to analyze energy management systems and implement controls in high energy-use industries, customers like SDG&E are able to reliably shift energy usage to off-peak times, reducing their costs and helping the environment too. EPS arranges the financing for these programs, which includes a utility incentive for our customers to participate in.
