Solution
The dairy installed the EPS xChange Point® system to track its real-time energy usage and emissions.
xChange Point is a monthly subscription service that requires no initial capital outlay. It uses meters to measure plant electricity, water, gas, and weather, and delivers monitoring data 24/7 via secured web portal.
xChange Point’s hardware gathers and stores plant energy data; its software organizes and displays it. Users can view one system or all, and access several hours or several weeks worth of information at a time, via their customized, secure website. If multiple plants have xChange Point, they can generate comparative performance graphs on demand.
Busy plant managers are not the only ones seeing this valuable data. EPS’ highly trained energy and carbon analysts regularly review clients’ xChange Point data and provide customized reports. These monthly Key Performance Indicator Reports (KeyPIRS) measure and document plant performance against energy consumption. Revealing subtle energy trends and reporting any recent critical issues, KeyPIRS recommend low- or no-cost actions to reduce plant energy usage and/or emissions—without sacrificing productivity. Financially compelling energy efficiency project proposals are also provided as requested, or as indicated by gathered data related to client-specified ROI goals.
Because data is meant to be seen—especially in time-sensitive situations—xChange Point alerts, delivered via email or text message, inform clients of crucial events. These might include unscheduled shutdowns, or predetermined energy use caps being exceeded. Notifications prompt immediate, money-saving corrective actions that can return far more than the monthly xChange Point subscription fee.
Result
Shortly after installing the xChange Point system at the dairy, EPS recommended one no-cost behavior modification and proposed several low-cost energysaving projects for the facility.
By making the changes uncovered by EPS energy analysts using data provided by the xChange Point system, the dairy achieved the return on investmentshown in the table to the right. Carbon reductions due to lower energy spend provided the dairy with the best of both worlds: energy cost reduction and environmental stewardship.
