EPS Demand Response Success Stories

California-based Automated Demand Response (Auto-DR) Projects

EPS Corp installed Auto-DR controls resulting in more than 18 MW of demand reduction across the state of California for Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and Southern California Edison (SCE). Auto-DR controls were installed to automatically shut down equipment based on a signal sent from the utilities. As a result, the utilities are able to reduce their peak load demands, while their participating customers are able to reduce their energy costs through lower utility rates. This program was implemented at a wide range of manufacturing companies, including Schnitzer Steel, Praxair, Fleetwood, Sully Miller, Grower’s Ice and Aaron Industries.

The net result: 18 MW of combined demand reduction.

Building Materials Company Demand Response Project

A global building materials company was interested in capitalizing on a demand response offering for some of its facilities as a way to reduce its energy expenses. EPS managed the program from the early stages, performed audits, then analyzed and prepared the Technical Assistance report. EPS assisted the client in identifying four sites that provided the best opportunity for demand response. EPS also implemented the innovative industrial control system necessary to achieve the DR goals of demand reduction of more than 6.0 MW during the contract period.

The net result: The company implemented 7.747 MW of demand reduction over four facilities at no cost and now benefits from lower energy costs by participating in this program.

Food Processing Demand Response Project

EPS Corp conducted a comprehensive Demand Response audit on behalf of PG&E for a specialty food manufacturer in California. EPS evaluated the production data and identified Demand Response measures to decrease the electric demand by 500 kW, including resetting the control system to manage peak loads and fly wheeling the cold storage rooms.

The net result: The company is now able to participate in the Demand Response program and has reduced its energy fees as a result. And they did so without any capital expenditures, since they were eligible for the PG&E incentive.
