Permanent Load Shift (PLS)

Substantial Energy Savings for Refrigerated Spaces

Permanent Load Shift (PLS) is a “proactive” electric load reduction program that can deliver large and persistent energy savings to industrial manufacturers, particularly those operating refrigerated facilities.

Unlike Demand Response programs, where customers “reactively” reduce usage for short time periods when requested by their utility, customers utilizing PLS enabling technologies shift their energy usage from peak time periods when rates are highest, to mid- and off-peak periods when rates are lower, for the entire peak energy season. The result is substantial energy savings, giving participating companies a competitive advantage versus those that only participate in Demand Response programs.

EPS has extensive experience and expertise in these programs. We pioneered the program for San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and successfully implemented PLS at three of their larger industrial refrigeration customers with the following results:
